If you love photography, no matter your skill level, you need to be at the Texas Photo FestivalTM.   The Smithville Film Commission (SFC) is now focused on the roll photography plays in the American Family.  SFC invites all levels of photographic enthusiasts to the Historic Downtown Main Street for an afternoon of photographic opportunities at the 1st annual Texas Photo FestivalTM.

The Texas Photo Festival was established to celebrate "Photographing the American Family."
This entails both photographing your own family at home, on vacation, and at holiday functions as well as recognizing that for special occasions and important events and milestones, you should hire a professional photographer.

Another important message about "Photographing the American Family" is to make sure you make prints to display. More photos are taken now than ever before, but too many times we don't make prints to display. Remember finding a shoe box of prints that your grandmother had hidden away. If we don't print the photographs we take now, there won't be photos for our grandchildren to find. I'm sure the images we have stored on our phone or computer won't even be around for future generations!

Included in this years photo festival is the Watershed Photo Study.  This program teaches basic photo techniques and environmental necessity of native plants.

Please join us for the second annual Texas Photo Festival celebrating "Photographing the American Family. Sponsored by the Smithville Music & Film Commission.  512-237-2313

On Saturday, Oct. 9th, 2010 you can attend a hands on learning workshop taught by Doug Box and Randy Kerr. Some of the things you will learn:  How to get in sync with the light. Move forward by understanding how to plan for light direction.  This program covers scouting for locations and lighting set up for Landscape, floral and portraits in nature.  You learn how your camera responds to light. It’s the fundamentals that gets you ready for the next level.  You will learn the process that will get you in sync with Earth, Light and Lens.

Sometimes the light outside is good, sometime it is not. So what do you do: Forget the shot? Do the shot with bad light? You will learn how to handle most every situation. We will cover when to use a reflector, what color reflector, when to use a translucent,  when to use subtractive lighting, when to add flash and the proper techniques for each. You will learn how to find “Great Light” outdoors. You will learn what to do if it is overcast and you can't find any direction to the light? Do you hate that "On Camera Flash" look? All your questions will be answered.

We will also cover posing techniques to make your subjects look great and how to relate to your clients. This workshop is limited to 20 people and the fee is only $175. We start on Saturday morning. We will be working in downtown Smithville. You will be blown away with all the info you will learn. We will also talk about the business side of photography.

Bring your cameras and tripods. You will be shooting models and making great images. For more information call 979-272-5555.
