Texas Photo Contest Results
BEST IN SHOW – Derby Boy with Cigar
Shadi A Dunkin, Austin, Texas
“I was trying to put more focus on the boy since more people were putting focus on the girls. He had more eye contact with me and seemed to have a lot of character. The girl just paled into the background.”
13 TO 20 AGE GROUP

1st Place
–The Baby & The
Firetruck
Elisabeth Scott, age 17, Smithville,
Texas
“There was a baby and it was cute. New babies are supposed to be photographed. Cause it made the baby look like it stopped the truck from going.”
West Hunter, 16, Smithville Texas
“My girlfriend, Elisabeth, is shrouded in white and deep in thought away from the clamor of the festival.”
Elisabeth Scott, age 17, Smithville,
Texas
“I liked that photo because it proved that old
things are still useful. The truck, that
is.”

1st Place – Congo
Yves Vandervennet, age 35, Austin,
Texas
“Reading the newspaper, in the comfort of Texas, enjoying a cigar. Congo appears as a striking contrast.”
Mary Earp, age 41, Smithville,
Texas
“This fireman amazed me. With tons of equipment weighing him down in extreme heat, his kind eyes invited me into the deeper layers under his suit, straight to his heart. In addition to his smile, his eyes told me to enjoy what I am doing, ‘I’ve got your back.’ I will be looking for those eyes if ever in an emergency...”
Kimberly Nobles, 32, Manor,
Texas
“I just thought it was like looking back in
time. It was really a cool place. And the gentlemen that was there; the glasses…it
was like an old apothecary.”
AMERICAN FAMILY PHOTO CONTEST 2009

1st Place - Angels
Mary Earp, Smithville,
Texas
“They’re my daughters. I had an inspiration,
it came from the movie Austrialia. I thought how wonderful it would be to have
my daughters in this photo. This is how my husband and I see them. We found
this log; the lighting was great. It was on the Trousdale’s ranch in
Winchester. It was just a perfect
image.”
2nd Place
–
Burros
Marcia Jenkins, Rosanky, Texas
“It was 20 years ago, but I thought it was a
classic thing for my family. I have
donkeys now. And I was on a donkey when
I took the picture. I have all the rest
of my family members on donkeys also.
It’s a family tradition.”

3rd Place – With Loving Admiration
Victoria Snyder, Smithville, Texas
“The reason behind the photo is that
I just wanted a picture of my kids with my grandpa because I wanted a picture
of him with his great-grandkids. He was
very pleased and excited about it.”
